At 6'2", the Kawai GL-50 is the largest model in the GL Series and brings the line into true performance-grand territory. Its longer scale and expanded soundboard area allow the bass to develop with greater depth and authority, while providing the middle and treble registers with the sustain, projection, and tonal complexity expected from a substantially sized grand piano. Fore-and-back duplex scaling adds sympathetic resonance and harmonic color, while Kawai's tapered solid-spruce soundboard is carefully designed to respond freely across its different regions. Fully underfelted hammers provide another important element of tonal refinement, giving the GL-50 the ability to produce both a warm, rounded voice at moderate dynamics and considerably greater brilliance and power when the music demands it.

The GL-50 also incorporates Kawai's CORE — Convergence for Optimum Reflected Energy — structural system, which brings the piano's rim, plate, and underside beams together around a central strength point to create a rigid acoustic foundation and promote efficient transfer of vibrational energy. Four back posts provide additional structural support, while Kawai's SOLID stretcher construction integrates the pinblock, plate, stretcher, and rim into an exceptionally rigid assembly designed for stability under string tension. At the keyboard, the Millennium III Grand Action uses lightweight, rigid ABS-Carbon components together with longer keys to provide fast repetition, precise control, and a more consistent touch from the front to the back of the playing surface. Combining a 6'2" scale with this substantial structural and action design, the GL-50 is particularly well suited to advanced pianists, teaching studios, institutions, and smaller performance spaces where both tonal authority and responsive control are essential.
