At 5'5", the Kawai GL-30 moves beyond the proportions of a traditional baby grand and into a size where greater string length and soundboard area begin to produce a noticeably more developed grand piano voice. Its tonal character is warm and full-bodied, with greater depth in the bass, a strong and expressive middle register, and enough tonal range to move from delicate playing to considerably more powerful passages without becoming overly bright. Fore-and-back duplex scaling allows selected non-speaking portions of the strings to resonate sympathetically, enriching the upper harmonics and helping give the treble greater color and sustain.
