The Kawai GL-10 is a compact 5'0" baby grand designed for pianists who want the touch, tonal character, and expressive control of a true grand piano in a size that fits comfortably into smaller living rooms, studios, and teaching spaces. Despite its compact dimensions, Kawai has incorporated many of the same fundamental design features found throughout its larger grand piano line. A tapered solid-spruce soundboard helps the instrument produce a warm, resonant voice, while underfelted hammers and a substantial rim and structural assembly give the GL-10 a surprisingly full tonal presence for a piano of its size. The result is a sound that favors warmth and body over excessive brightness, with an especially satisfying singing quality through the middle register.

One of the GL-10's most important features is Kawai's Millennium III Grand Action, the same basic action technology used throughout Kawai's higher-level grand piano families. Key action components are constructed from ABS-Carbon, a carbon-fiber-reinforced composite developed to be lighter, stronger, and more dimensionally stable than conventional wooden action parts. Combined with longer keys, this gives the GL-10 a responsive and controlled touch with excellent repetition and particularly good control at softer dynamic levels. Features including a full sostenuto pedal, soft-fall fallboard, SOLID stretcher construction, and Kawai's V-Pro cast-iron plate further distinguish the GL-10 as a genuinely performance-oriented small grand rather than simply a furniture-sized alternative to an upright.
